여권 갱신
Are you planning to travel internationally anytime soon? One of the first things you need to do is get your passport renewed. In South Korea, 여권 갱신 (passport renewal) isn’t difficult, but it requires some preparation. Here’s what you need to know.
Submission Process
Before anything else, know that you can’t renew your passport online. You have to submit application forms and required documents in person at the 여권 사무소 (passport office). The application process usually takes around two weeks. Make sure to apply early to avoid any travel delays.
Application Forms
To apply for a passport renewal, you need to complete two sets of application forms: “Contour Application for Passport Issuance” and “Passport Application.” Both forms can be downloaded from the Korean Passport Office website and need to be printed on A4-sized paper.
Documents Required
Besides the completed application forms, you will need to provide the following documents:
· Your expiring passport
· A recent passport-sized photograph
· Your resident registration card or equivalent
· Proof of your upcoming travel itinerary (if applicable)
Fees
The passport renewal fee is ₩55,000, with an additional ₩2,000 for next-day issuance. You can pay with cash, credit or debit cards, or T-Money cards at the passport office.
Pick-up Process
When the renewal process is finished, you can pick up your new passport in person at the passport office or have it delivered to your home/office for an additional fee. You will also have to turn in your old passport during pick-up.
